IDC/IOC
(Instructor Development Course)
The goal of the PADI IDC is to prepare instructor candidates to function as PADI
Open Water Scuba Instructors. Both the Instructor Development Course (IDC) and the
Instructor Orientation Course (IOC) are designed to further develop the leadership and
teaching abilities of candidates to the instructor level and prepare candidates to begin
teaching PADI courses after successful completion of an Instructor Examination (IE) The
goals of the IDC/IOC is not to teach candidates to pass an IE. (Instructor Examination)
Course Prerequisites include being a certified as a PADI Assistant Instructor or
Divemaster or as a current Instructor member in good standing with another recreational
diver training organization. If not a PADI Assistant Instructor or Divemaster, the the
candidate must be an instructor with one of the following organizations: BSAC, CMAS, FAUI,
IDEA, Los Angles County, MDEA, NASDS, NAUI, PDIC, SSI, SAA OR YMCA.
The minimum age is 18 years, candidates must be fit for diving and submit a Medical Statement for a diving medical examination conducted within the past 12 months. A licensed physician must sign the form and state that the candidate is fit for diving.
Candidates must have been a certified diver for at least six months and have completed and logged at least 60 dives. A minimum of 100 logged dives is required to attend an IE.
Submit proof of CPR training within the last 24 months.
PADI IDC/IOC's are conducted at PADI 5-Star IDC centers and PADI CTC training centers by PADI Course Directors.
